Marxism And Hollywood, Continued

This time it's Cameron Diaz showing her ignorance or maybe she's one of 'em. Could be, I guess. At any rate, she sure pissed off the Peru folk. Why wouldn't it? After all, the Maoists killed a ton of them a few years ago. Many haven't forgotten. On top of that, communism has failed all over, including Mao Zedong's (aka Mao Tse-Tung and Chairman Mao, same guy) China so why wouldn't the Peruvians resent the reference, even if it is supposed to be cool?

"It alludes to a concept that did so much damage to Peru, that brought about so
many victims," said Pablo Rojas about the bag's slogan."I don't think she should
have used that bag where the followers of that ideology" did so much damage.

That pretty much says it. Good job Pablo. Don't let them forget.

Ozzie Guillen - No Wonder He Acts That Way

Here's one reason. It's bad enough to trade Buerhle, but read on down.

The White Sox are interested in Boston's minor-league starting pitchers Clay
Buchholz and Michael Bowden, plus outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury and shortstop Jed
Lowrie, the newspaper reported.

Now.......here's a team that can't hold a lead. Period. They get a lead. Can't hold it. Bullpen has the highest earned run average in baseball. Do they look for a reliever for one of the game's best starters? Naaaah. Maybe Ken Williams should have canned himself instead of their scouting director. If they had relief help and Buerhle's wins held up, maybe he would want to stay with the southsiders.

Cheese

That's the reason the price of your favorite pizza just went up or is about to rise. According to
this article , the price has been going up dramatically for a year.

Block cheddar cheese reached $2.08 a pound Thursday on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, up 78 percent from $1.17 a
pound a year ago.

And some of us thought the price of gas has gone up quickly. Well, I guess it has - just not 78 percent. It won't be long until we're hearing that the cheese prices are all Bush's fault. Who can argue? Everything else is.

HR 1592 - U.S. or U.S.S.R.?

As Ol' BC contemplates the amnesty efforts for illegal aliens, another issue leaps front and center without much fanfare. Nikita Khrushchev said the U.S.S.R. would bury us without firing a shot. He may have been prophetic. As communism fails all over the world, we here in the United States seem to want to try our best to join the ranks of those failed countries, U.S.S.R. included.

This bill leans heavily towards the old U.S.S.R. where you were not allowed to speak freely. Here it is referred to as a "thought crime." Hmmm. Violates the first amendment? Not much mention of that.

Congressman Mike Pence from Indiana offered the important amendment on Freedom
of Religion. “Nothing in this section limits the religious freedom of any person
or group under the constitution.”
A number of Republicans spoke in support of
it. But the Democrats Jerrold Nadler, Tammy Baldwin and Chairman John Conyers
kept evading the issue.
Finally, Congressman Gohmert asked, “If a minister
was giving a sermon, a Bible study or any kind of written or spoken message
saying that homosexuality was a serious sin and a person in the congregation
went out and committed a crime against a homosexual would the minister be
charged with the crime of incitement?”
Gohmert was attempting to clarify and
emphasize that the legislation would have an effect on the constitutional right
to religious freedom and thus the Pence amendment was needed to protect
religious speech.
The Democrats continued to explain why they could not
accept the amendment. Lundgren continuously shot down their answer. He said,
“What is your answer? Would there be incitement charges against the pastor?”And
finally Democrat Congressman Artur Davis from Alabama spoke up and said,
“Yes.”

Not exactly the foundation this country was founded upon? Not exactly.

Global Warming Observation

Here's a great post by Tom Bowler at L squared. Take a minute and check it out. Amazing how money can influence scientific conclusions.

Questions Abound

After listening to rounds of presidential debates recently, Ol' BC can't help but wonder about a few things. This is just my nature. I tend to question things. Here are a few of them.

Do the Democrats who are running REALLY think they represent the views of a majority of Americans?

If the U.S. pulls out of Iraq, do some of these candidates REALLY think the Islamic terrorists are just going to terrorize one another and leave the non-Muslims alone?

How are the deaths of those in the Darfur region different than the hundreds of thousands of deaths of Arabs and Kurds under Saddam Hussein?

Pro-choice versus Pro-life, what's with the exceptions? If I was born in 1955 or 1975 as the result of a pregnancy by rape or incest or if my mother died during childbirth, am I less of a person than the majority of the other people? If not, why the exceptions? Is a fetus a life or not at conception? At one month? At two months? Are most pro-lifers only part time?

What happened to the specific powers granted to the federal government in the constitution? I missed the entire education and healthcare section. There has been a lot of talk about heaping on more and very little about rescinding any. What about all others being reserved for the states? Eerie silence.

Do that many of the candidates REALLY think that if they grant amnesty to illegal aliens already in this country no more are going to sneak in?

Have that many of the candidates forgotten that learning English opened doors to success for millions of Germans, Italians, Israelis and scads of others for years and years? Why weren't signs and information printed in eighteen languages for all those years if it is that critical? Could it actually hold people back and keep them living at a subsistence level?

Do people REALLY think that catering to a Palestinian state, whose sole mission in life is the eradication of Israel, is going to lead to peace in the region? How about if that Palestinian state is on land that was previously Israel and is presently adjacent to Israel?

Sometimes I'm just totally perplexed at what I hear. I'm not just referring to the media. Maybe someone can direct these questions to those more enlightened than me for some semi-profound answers.

Just a thought.
