Not too long ago one of Ol' BC's right wing friends said that when Obama felt he couldn't win re-election he would generate rioting in the streets. I heard him calling for marches the other day on TV. I'm witnessing the march of Wall Street in which most have no idea why they are there. Maybe, just maybe, he has a better understanding of Obama than Ol' BC thought.

Yes, Florida is first. It is the first state to require drug testing when applying for welfare. The new law is due to take effect July 1st.

NFL And Players

I heard recently that the NFL teams have been asked again to open their books to the players for review. That's ludicrous. One talking head actually concurred because as he said, "the players are giving back so they should get to see the books."

Let me clarify this. The players aren't "giving back" one dime. The old CBA has expired and that pie (we'll call it apple pie) was divided under it between the NFL teams and the players. None of the players' money under that agreement is being given back.

NOW, the NFL is baking a cherry pie. They are deciding how to divide it (under a new CBA) since the apple pie has been devoured. They players aren't giving back any apple pie. It's all gone. Now, they are discussing the cherry pie.

The owners have invested millions and some hundreds of millions in their franchises and stadia. As fairly reasonable business people they might like to make a reasonable profit. They provide employment for a bunch of folks. Hopefully, this will settle sooner rather than later.

In 2006 Ol' BC posted on Governor Bradford and the Pilgrims early Thanksgivings due to the Governor cancelling the communal experiment in the New World as people were starving and adopting a free enterprise system that allowed the settlement to flourish. NPR fired Juan Williams? Are they just trying to confirm for all the world that they are a left wing news organization? They are doing a fine job at it. Juan Williams? But, so little has been reported about Dr. Martin Luther King's niece speaking at Beck's event in Washington D.C. today. Since I can copy and paste from here I can't put up the article on foxsports.com, but LaRussa was introducing Albert Pujols who was being given an award for his charitable work. Both were moved by the rally and LaRussa said, "I'll raise money for those folks anytime."

Somehow, I don't see that being widely reported.

Obama Propagandizing On Taxpayer Dime

That's what one representative is pointing out. When your "stimulus" program is a colossal failure, make stuff up and post in on dot gov sites. That is what Rep. Darrell Issa points out in a thirty-seven page report.

Issa released a 37-page report documenting alleged misconduct by the Obama
administration in several of its new-media projects. The report documents
several instances in which government agencies allegedly promoted administration
policies using federal resources.
Issa called on the Government
Accountability Office (GAO) to investigate the allegations and determine if the
administration violated federal law by using taxpayers' dollars for political
purposes.

Any chance this will be investigated?

Obama Faithful Prepare. . .

It seems there was more fishy crap than originally thought when the health insurance fiasco was being debated. This tells of hiding some damning information.

A damning health care report generated by actuaries at the Health and Human
Services (HHS) Department was given to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius more than
a week before the health care vote. She hid the report from the public until a
month after democrats rammed their nationalized health care bill through
Congress.
The results from the
report were troubling. The report released by Medicare and Medicaid
actuaries shows that medical costs will skyrocket rising $389 billion 10 years.
14 million will lose their employer-based coverage. Millions of Americans will
be left without insurance. And, millions more may be dumped into the already
overwhelmed Medicaid system. 4 million American families will be hit with tax
penalties under this new law.
Of course, these were ALL things that President
Obama and Democratic leaders assured us would not happen.

Wow. Democrats lie or cheat or deceive? Hmmmm.

Arizona

Ol' BC has been watching news accounts of the new illegal alien law passed in that state full of racist haters, Arizona. I watched one report (NBC) that tried like hell to equate the illegal aliens criminally sneaking into this country to those in the clip who were taking their oath of citizenship.

Those taking their oath of citizenship immigrated legally and are in no way equal to the criminal illegal aliens (these are not immigrants). Please point this out to whomever, whenever the situations calls for it.

This has been going on for some time and has led to very light posting. The gist of the post by Andrew is that diversity doesn't have to be race or ethnicity based. Maybe The One could appoint a SCOTUS nominee that has at least read the constitution - maybe a non-lawyer since "lawyers are to law what firemen are to fire."

Interesting. Yeah, I know. This could never get through a Senate full of lawyers.

No kidding. People feel that the average Tea Party member has a better understanding of the issues than the average member of Congress. Significantly, according to this.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 52% of U.S.
voters believe the average member of the Tea Party movement has a better
understanding of the issues facing America today than the average member of
Congress. Only 30% believe that those in Congress have a better understanding of
the key issues facing the nation.

Fifty-two to thirty. That is a decisive whipping. Another case for Congressional term limits.

Enforcement Mechanism May Be Lacking.

Maybe Congress should have taken the time to read the massive health insurance bill before jamming it through. It appears that there may be a kink ot two.

The penalty applies to any period the individual does not maintain minimum
essential coverage and is determined monthly. The penalty is assessed through
the Code and accounted for as an additional amount of Federal tax owed. However, it is not
subject to the enforcement provisions of subtitle F of the Code. The use of
liens and seizures otherwise authorized for collection of taxes does not apply
to the collection of this penalty. Non-compliance with the personal
responsibility requirement to have health coverage is not subject to criminal or
civil penalties under the Code and interest does not accrue for failure to pay
such assessments in a timely manner.

Chavez says he is doing his best to combat crime, which he blames on wealth

Massachusetts Health Reform Not So Good

It seems that a ton of folks that supported the reform of health insurance in Massachusetts are coming to realize that it hasn't worked out too well. This article points out some of the problems post reform. Amazingly, it's a little like the smallish countries that have similar systems.

Residents of that state now pay the highest insurance premiums in the nation.
Exploding health care costs mean the state can't even pay hospitals enough
to cover the care given to patients.
Waiting lists are growing, particularly
in Boston, where some patients have to wait up to a year for routine visits to
specialists.

Hmmm. This wasn't going to be the case at the inception. Sound familiar? Pelosi and Reid are preaching the same fibs.

The biggest potential change would come if the court grants corporations the
same free speech protections now granted individuals under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution

Hmmm. I don't recall exceptions to the first amendment when I read it. My understanding from my Civics class was that the first amendment was to insure political speech was free and unimpeded. It seems to follow that McCain-Feingold could be in trouble. Of course, logic doesn't always seem to be present as one reads court decisions.

Dodd Not Seeking Re-Election

At least let's hope so. This Washington Post article indicates that Dodd is through.

Embattled Sen. Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.) has scheduled a news conference
for Wednesday at which he is expected to announce he will not seek reelection,
sources familiar with his plans said Tuesday night.
Word of Dodd's
retirement plans comes after months of speculation about his political future,
his faltering poll numbers and a growing sense among the Democratic
establishment that he could not win a sixth term in the Senate.

He should be "embattled." He and Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) led the charge against regulation of the mortgage industry and the credit default swaps that led to the crisis this country experienced (and the world for that matter).

Ol' BC thinks it is a wonderful thing that he's giving it up. Now if he would only give back the money he received from Fannie and Freddie. This is one more example of the need for Congressional term limits.

Jimmy Carter Apologizes To Israel

so."

He never said he was sorry for siding with the terrorist Palestinians. He is just trying to smooth things over with the Jewish community. It was more than likely a result of his grandson running for a Georgia state Senate seat.

While the Chinese constitution guarantees freedom of religion, Christians are
required to worship in churches run by state-controlled organizations: The
Three-Self Patriotic Movement for Protestants and the Chinese Patriotic Catholic
Association for Roman Catholics.

Freedom of religion? Eerily reminds one of the Church of England. I haven't read enough British history to see if government thugs knocked down churches and brutalized attendees, but then again, this is China.

Ol' BC read an article that gave me pause. We had five (5) hours warning for Hurricane Katrina. New Orleans and Louisiana officials dropped the ball. The conclusion is that Bush hates minorities. Now, we had eight (8) months or so warning of the H1N1 virus. The government dropped the ball. Does this mean that Obama doesn't like kids? Seems like a logical parallel. Both conclusions are stupid and sound like Kos or Huffington but they would never criticize The One.

Fighting The War. . .Let's Get Our Guys Killed

A marine has a son. He too is a marine. The proud. The few. But now the son is dead. The dad, still a marine, had a problem with the way the Obama administration has chosen to proceed with the war in Afghanistan before it cost him his son.

Bernard's criticism is aimed at new rules of engagement imposed by Gen. Stanley
McChrystal, the senior American commander in Afghanistan, five weeks before
Joshua Bernard was killed. They limit the use of airstrikes and require troops
to break off combat when civilians are present, even if it means letting the
enemy escape. They also call for greater cooperation with the Afghan National
Army.
Under those rules, John Bernard said, Marines and soldiers are being
denied artillery and air support for fear of killing civilians, and the Taliban
is using that to its tactical advantage. In a letter to his congressman and
Maine's U.S. senators, Bernard condemned "the insanity of the current situation
and the suicidal position this administration has placed these warriors in."

Ol' BC isn't a big fan of what's going on in Afghanistan, but if we are going to send our soldiers into the mess at least let them play to win. When the enemy is using women and children on the front lines they have identified their values when it comes to human life. The Muslim extremists are essentially animals. They don't mind killing their own for "the cause."

We need to fight to win or get out of Dodge. This pussy-footing around is getting people killed.

As Ol' BC sits and ponders the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize and realizes that the Nobel committee has just defined itself as a political entity, along comes this little nugget.

If the snow sticks, it would be the earliest recorded measurable snowfall in
Chicago. The record was set just three years ago when it snowed on Oct. 12.

The record was a mere three (3) years ago? Wow! This must really irritate the algorians. Al Gore and his band of followers want you to believe that we are warming at a most alarming rate when the earth has actually been cooling for somewhere in the neighborhood of a decade.

Losing Olympics Is Bush's Fault

That's what Illinois Senator Rowland Burris is saying. Everything that doesn't go Obama's way is Bush's fault. A losing presentation for the 2016 Olympics seems to be no exception. I guess that's one way to direct attention away from Obama's failures. This administration falls back on that trite summation every time something goes awry.

Did it ever occur to them that perhaps, just perhaps, the voters remember Atlanta? Could the fact that no country in South America has ever hosted an Olympics have weighed positively with the voters. Ol' BC had the vote figured out last week just watching reports on television.

At any rate, this administration might want to figure out some other alibi for their failures as this one is starting to lose it punch. Maybe they "inherited" a less than adequate presentation from Bush's two terms. One thought however - they could always blame a few of their future failures on Nixon.

America's Head In The Sand?

While wondering how people could really be alarmed that the Swiss government may extradite Roman Polanski (who BTW pled guilty to raping the 13 year old girl), I came upon an interesting tidbit along the way. Here's an msnbc article (New York Times) that comes right out and confirms that the U.S. is about the only nation on earth that wants to think that Iran is being a good boy when it comes to nuclear bomb development. Sarkozy came right out and said it earlier.

Meanwhile, in closed-door discussions, American spy agencies have stood firm in
their conclusion that while Iran may ultimately want a bomb, the country halted
work on weapons design in 2003 and probably has not restarted that effort — a
judgment first made public in a 2007 National Intelligence Estimate.

What is the matter with the U.S.? France sees it. Germany sees it. Israel sees it. Iran is in the development business when it comes to atomic weapons. Obama is rapidly approaching a Jimma Carter level of ineptitude. Carter effed up by ousting the Shah and putting in the Islamic extremists. Let's hope somebody in this wild eyed lefty administration will try to see what is right in front of them. If not, at least listen to their heros in France. Like a buddy of mine who considers himself a progressive told me, "look up Areva. The French know." I researched it and I think he's right.

Obama Corrects Jimma Carter

President Obama corrected former President Jimma Carter who said criticism of the current President is mostly because he's a black man.

President Barack Obama said Friday that angry criticisms about his health
care agenda are driven by an intense debate over the proper role of government —
and not by racism.

Carter was the worst President this country has ever seen. He single handedly wrecked our economy. He single handedly demolished the government of one of our better allies and allowed Islamic extremists to rule. He tried time and again to set up Israel for eradication. Now, at his advanced age one might think Carter would have learned a little given his years of experience. But, no. Jimma is still a babbling idiot who has yet to do a meaningful thing to benefit this country. He should listen closely to Dr. Lou's advice given to Lane Kiffin, new University of Tennessee football coach, and try to remember it - when you can't improve upon silence, don't talk.

Of course he is one of the leading Hollywood socialists. I have never really understood their logic unless they just want to solidify their standing in the society. Most of them legally reside in states other than California so they don't have to pay California taxes. Amazing.

Why do these guys remain in the U.S.? I can't imagine Hugo or Fidel not welcoming them with open arms if they wanted to move to Venezuela or Cuba. It just baffles me. They have all the financial wherewithal to join Hugo or Fidel in their countries, yet the Hollywood leftists remain here trying to get us to adopt policies that have failed all over the world. The same policies that France, Germany, Italy and most of Europe are running from as quickly as possible. Go figure.

Another sterling example of why Ol' BC says that the Democrats are better politicians. Here's the case in a nutshell.

The backers of the socialized medicine plan presented in the House of Representatives (aka ObamaCare) never address questions when they are raised about the content of the bill or its ramifications on the people who will be subject to the plan. They avoid the issue and call them names like disrupters and Nazis (when actually the Democrat party policies much more closely resemble Hitler's National Socialist Party). Instead of saying to the questioner or commenter, "actually what the bill says is . . ." and going on to explain where these "protesters" are incorrect the hosts of these town hall functions shout, avoid and move on to the next person. It leads one to believe that maybe the questioners aren't incorrect. In addition, they have all the major media reporting on whether the questioners are organized by some group or another instead of reporting on the content of the bill and actually taking the time to analyze it and report on it. Of course, if this happened the favorability ratings on the bill would undoubtedly be dropping faster.

Also, I see where Mike Pence (R-IN) posted a link to the actual bill on his facebook page.

Like I said, the Democrats are better politicians.

As Obama Sinks . . .

. . . and his poll numbers continue to drop, he resorts to (drum roll here) - BLAMING BUSH. At least that's how this Washington Times article portrays the situation.

"For a guy who campaigned on taking responsibility and looking forward, he
spends an awful lot of time pointing fingers and looking backward," said former
Bush deputy press secretary Tony Fratto, who has begun defending the previous
administration.

It is not surprising that Obama would resort to this tactic. It works.

Democratic Party strategist Liz Chadderdon said the strategy of blaming the previous team has been effective.

"I think Bush-bashing has been alive and well since '07 and, since it keeps
working, why not use it?" she said. "Voters have short memories. The
administration needs to remind people that things were way worse over the last
four years than in the last six months."

Liz must have lived in a different country than Ol' BC over the last four years. But, then again, like a friend of mine says, "Democrats are better politicians. They lie better."

Please note my emphasis in the excerpt above. Once again we
get a glimpse of the global warmists' argument. Get with the program, or
else. I don't know what might have happened had she spoken out before her
retirement, but whatever it was, Ms. Simpson didn't want to risk it.
Clearly, the science of global warming is the science of coersion. The
global warmists are thugs, and a vote in favor of any legislation to fight
global warming is an invitation to more thuggery.

I pasted Tom's post in its entirety. I lost his bold type in the paste. Ol' BC himself has commented over and again on how those in the science community who support this lunacy are government employed or on government grants. Nearly all objective scientists have disputed the whole arguement as they study it independently.

Does this mean that those see the farce for what it is don't want a cleaner planet? Of course not. That would be just as silly as those who wish to cripple the United States economy and further punish the poor with this "cap and trade" garbage. Some of the environmental mess is man made and nobody can dispute it. Some carbon dioxide is man made (especially when we breathe). Its impact has been totally misrepresented by some in an effort to increase the size and scope of government. Some actually believe it, I'm sure. But, the House bought into it by a very slim majority. Ol' BC is surprised that the margin was that slim. Maybe we really do have hope in the Senate. Maybe, but don't hold your breath. Thuggery could be coming to the U.S.

As Europe continues to recognize socialism's failure and continues to runs from it, Americans harp about Obama's leap towards socialism with the bank bailout, auto bailout, etc. Given the relative small ownership to date of the means of production by the government as my buddy Mark pointed out in previous comments, it points out that Obama leans towards classical fascism with a small dose of socialism thrown in to stay tight with Hugo and Fidel. As Ol' BC sees it, the means of production in this country are still predominantly privately owned. The government is now, under Obama, dictating the direction, the products, etc to be produced by them in larger and larger measures. Kind of resembles Hilter and Mussolini doesn't it?

Granted, the steps have been smallish in the grand scheme of things. Some of these steps in the "wrong direction" may have actually had good intentions and short term success (the jury is still out on this one). But, in the long run this will probably be looked upon as the dark days of the United States, much as the Jimmy Carter era is today. The big difference now is that Obama has a cheering section in the main stream media and if a source tries to give both sides they are labeled right wing zealots and other colorful monikers (not that the labeling is one sided by any means, this one just gets significantly more air time.) Just wait until the socialized medicine comes into play. The door ajar may be swung a little farther open.

Not The Dealers Fault. . .

. . .but one can't seem to convince GM and Chrysler (or perhaps the Oblahma administration) as they close nearly two thousand in the first round. This George Spaulding piece addresses the issue quite nicely.

Another thought. I have been lead to believe stimulus packages involve “jobs.”
Chrysler will be axing 40,000 jobs; GM, 63,000 jobs. All of a sudden, “jobs” are
unimportant.

All of the sudden? Has Spaulding been paying attention to the moves this administration has made to date? It's going to get worse kids. It's going to get worse.

Several years ago Ford and GM tried to buy out and run auto dealerships, with
disastrous results. My fear now is a similar government type of intervention in
the auto industry …
This is the same government that is forcing automakers
to make (green) cars nobody wants. If the government REALLY WANTS to help the
auto industry, remove the 35 mpg average that is mandated for 2015 and allow the
manufacturers to build cars and trucks that will sell, without rebates and tax
credits.

Under this administration we'll not be seeing government meddling in the private sector reduced. This is the Bush administration kicked up notches unknown. Hang on if you can.

California No Vote On New Taxes

This usatoday article speaks to the California voters shouting loudly to the state government about proposed tax increases put forth to soften the state budget shortage brought about by spending rivaled only by Washington. It seems the voters in sunny California have had enough.

Four out of five measures dealing with higher taxes had failed by nearly 2-to-1,
and the fifth was trailing badly. The only measure to pass was one that banned
pay raises for elected officials in deficit years.

Seems like common sense to Ol' BC. Very little has been written in the main stream media concerning the vote. Some of the more liberal media criticized the vote, but it appears the people in the state of the Golden Gate have had enough. California may want to consider fiscal restraint as their next course of action. It may meet with a 2 to 1 approval.

Among those going to the polls was Kerrie Von Korper, a grocery worker said she
voted "no on everything. "We all have to live within our means, and that
includes the state,"

Wow! Maybe Kerrie can wield some influence in Washington. That sounds like common sense.

Oklahoma Legislature Claims State Sovereignty

Oklahoma appears to be sick and tired of being bludgeoned and battered by the federal government. The legislature is striking back and making Oklahomans feelings kown. Ol' BC understands that other states are considering similar measures. Here's an account from Hot Air.

The Oklahoma House defied
a veto from Democratic Governor Brad Henry to approve a resolution asserting
its sovereignty under the Constitution. The Senate had approved the initial
resolution 29-18, just shy of the two-thirds needed to sustain an override, but
this new bill does not require his signature. Backers are optimistic
that they will succeed in sending a message to Washington DC to start limiting
themselves to truly federal task

The federal government has been out of control for years and years and apparently, the Oklahoma legislature is going to send a message to Washington.

Although Gov. Brad Henry vetoed similar legislation 10 days earlier, House
members Monday again approved a resolution claiming Oklahoma’s
sovereignty.
Unlike House Joint Resolution 1003, House Concurrent Resolution
1028 does not need the governor’s approval.
The House passed the measure
73-22. It now goes to the Senate. …
Key said HCR 1028, which, if passed,
would be sent to Democratic President Barack Obama and the Democratic-controlled
Congress, would not jeopardize federal funds but would tell Congress to “get
back into their proper constitutional role.” The resolution states the federal
government should “cease and desist” mandates that are beyond the scope of its
powers.
Key said many federal laws violate the 10th Amendment, which says
powers not delegated to the U.S. government “are reserved to the states
respectively, or to the people.” The Constitution lists about 20 duties required
of the U.S. government, he said.

The Constitution has been and is being trampled to the nth degree and enough is enough. Here's hoping other states follow Oklahoma's lead.

According to this article by NBC News producer Cheryll Simpson, the "religion of peace" is increasing its efforts to make everyone conform. Where's Gloria Steinham when she is really really needed. Perez Hilton, forget about Miss California. Your buddies are being slaughtered in Iraq. Get to Baghdad and start doing television interviews.

In a letter to Iraqi President Nouri al-Maliki in April, Amnesty International called for "urgent and concerted action"
to stop the killings of men because of their sexual
orientation.
Amnesty International expressed concern at the
government’s failure to "publicly condemn the killings."

Kind of makes civil union vs. "marriage" arguements seem trivial. We are talking a death sentence here. No trial. Just "religion of peace" justice.

Posters and leaflets have been distributed in the Baghdad neighborhoods of
al-Shola, al-Hurya and Sadr City with orders to, "Cleanse Iraq from the
crime of homosexuality."

While Ol' BC doesn't support gay "marriage" for multiple reasons, I see no reason in this day and age for the legal rights not to be bestowed on civil unions, along with alimony, settlement agreements and child support. Now is the time for the gay activists to get on over to Iraq and start protesting to save lives. This probably won't happen just as the Algore isn't protesting in China and India about pollution and global warming. (Some are sincere. Some just wish for the demise of the United States.) If the U.S. rolled over on these issues it would have about as much impact worldwide as the old woman peeing in the ocean.

Overreaction To "Swine Flu"

This H1N1(erroneously referred to as "swine flu") virus has people's panties all in a wad. The main stream media would have all of us believe that our lives are in jeopardy. This LA Times article puts it in a little more perspective.

In fact, the current outbreak of the H1N1 virus, which emerged in San Diego and
southern Mexico late last month, may not even do as much damage as the
run-of-the-mill flu outbreaks that occur each winter without much fanfare.

That's not surprising. The media nowadays seems bent on a high drama style of reporting or manufacturing facts. The World Health Organization indicated that the number of cases is up to 257 (two HUNDRED fifty-seven). See this article. It seems the WHO is going to try to stop the swine flu misnomer.

"Let's not lose track of the fact that the normal seasonal influenza is a huge
public health problem that kills tens of thousands of people in the U.S. alone
and hundreds of thousands around the world," said Dr. Christopher Olsen, a
molecular virologist who studies swine flu at the University of Wisconsin School
of Veterinary Medicine in Madison.

Tens of thousands in the U.S. and hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. Two hundred fifty-seven versus hundreds of thousands. That's startling. Any chance the current administration is propagandizing to assist in its ambitious health care reform program?

As The One waffles about on the torture issue, depending upon which way the political winds blow, he is in a position to seriously damage the country's intelligence community and the national defense as a whole. Here's Ol' BC's biggest problem with the present situation. I don't feel making someone uncomfortable constitutes torture. If this is the case, I've had bosses that should be imprisoned. We're getting completely carried away here simply because of the left's hatred of George Bush. John McCain was tortured. Some nut who got waterboarded was not. I have friends who have been waterboarded and they are just fine.

Those of you who read from time to time know I'm not a big Dubya fan. Amazingly though, The One is finding many of Dubya's policies good enough to continue. The left is starting to squeal, Oblahma is starting to cave and the country is going to suffer.

Tea Parties

Tax and government size protests (tea parties) were held across the nation today. Observers found a surprising fact. Tea parties were much more heavily attended than anyone thought possible. The one Ol' BC attended in south central Indiana was much much more of a hit than I had ever imagined it could be. Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN) spoke to the crowd. One eleven (11) year old delivered a remarkably eloquent address to the crowd. Ol' BC's son in Florida attended a tea party in West Palm Beach and said it too was much better attended than anticipated. This msnbc piece tells a little about tea parties.

President Obama vowed a simpler tax code in response to the vastly attended tea parties. Hellooooo. You're not listening. Simplifying the code would be alright. Scrapping it altogether would be preferable. LIGHTEN OUR TAX LOAD would be a much better response.

Oblahma Mocked In Black Face

On Turkish television, they mocked the president in black face. Where in the world are the reverends Jesse and Al? They should already be in Turkey. What in the world is taking so long? If this was Fox, they would have a demonstration in progress with tens of people in the crowd and making the talk show circuit drawing attention to themselves. Suddenly, they are eerily quiet. What gives?

This doesn't lend much credibility to the left's claims of regaining respect in the world. Well, the president did get thumbs up from Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez. Does that speak volumes?

Obama Deficits Four Times Bush's

The Cow Is Out Of The Barn

Everybody whose panties are in a wad over AIG bonuses need to slow down. If that was their pay plan Ol' BC's understanding is only the courts can amend or negate contracts. Not the executive branch. Not the legislative branch. If your job was, say, to meet a goal in new life or health policies and you met it you would expect the bonus to be paid. If you agreed that after a time certain with the company a bonus would be paid and you met it, you would expect to be paid. If the government wanted to beat these guys and gals out of their bonuses, they should have attached the strings up front when handing over billions of taxpayer money. They had their chance and apparently ol' Senator Dodd (he of big money from Fannie fame) slipped in that it was alright to pay them.

It looks like Oblahma is going to overstep his authority and try to take charge of compensation in the private sector.

The new rules will cover all financial institutions, including those not now
covered by any pay rules because they are not receiving federal bailout money.
Officials say the rules could also be applied more broadly to publicly traded
companies, which already report about some executive pay practices to the
Securities and Exchange Commission.

Nothing good can come of this. Well run companies don't need goverment meddling. Look how inefficient government run entities are and have been throughout history. Poorly run companies need to change or fade away or be absorbed. Government meddling isn't going to help. Pretty soon they will be asking A-Rod for part of his $250 million in compensation because he plays games in stadiums that were built with public money. And on and on and on.

Wal-Mart To Stifle Latinos

According to this article Wal-Mart is going to open Hispanic focused supermarkets complete with spanish speaking employees and signage.

Retail giant Wal-Mart
(WMT) will open its first Hispanic-focused
supermarkets this summer in Arizona and Texas. The stores will feature
Spanish speaking staff and new layouts, products, and signage that will be
"relevant to local Hispanic customers."
The stores, dubbed Supermercado de
Walmart, will appear in converted Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market stores in Phoenix
and Houston. Separately, the company also plans on converting a Sam's Club
warehouse into a Hispanic-themed Más Club.

Ol' BC wonders what kind of kudos Wal-Mart will receive for helping to relegate the latino population in the Houston and Phoenix areas to the lowest rungs of the economic ladder. Wal-Mart should lead the movement to encourage immigrants to the U.S. to assimilate, learn English and give themselves a chance to be successful in this country. Wal-Mart has the financial wherewithal to have an impact in this area. Of course, then again, maybe they prefer to have pool of those who will do grunt work cheaply because they can't speak English. This will help keep that pool viable for quite some time.

Vacation Was Nice - President Still On Wrong Path

Ol' BC just returned to the semi-cold midwest from sunny Florida after a visit with my old man. He's 86 and still physically fit for the most part. We got in a couple rounds of golf, drank some cold beer and ate some delicious oysters. It was low 80's and sunny all week.

It was good to see that Mark Van Dyk was back stirring the pot and engaging in some interesting exchanges. Mark, I hope the kids are doing well. I see that you still lean towards the contradictory. Of course teaching college students must make one that way.

I did see where Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN), a finalist for the VP nomination and one of Ol' BC's senators, voted against Oblahma's spending bill and is organizing a group of 15 or so to try to infuse some sense into the Oblahma administration. Bayh indicated that this present path is simply unsustainable.

I don't know if Bayh has enough backbone to make this interesting. He certainly didn't get it from his dad if he does. Stay tuned.

Jindal Response Appeals To The People

Just not to the main stream media. Jindal's criticism of The One's address to the nation has drawn the wrath of the talking heads at the networks. Here's a piece that calls his response all kinds of names we never heard from the Democratic response to President Bush.

Insane. Childish. Disaster. And those were some of the kinder comments from
political pundits about Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and his response to
President Barack Obama's speech to Congress on Tuesday night

HOWEVER, there's more to the story. The story not too many sources are telling. The MSM is still trying to prop up The One's popularity.

A CNN poll taken after his speech found 92 percent of viewers had a positive
reaction to it.

Who in the world did CNN poll? Hmmmm. Ninety-two (92) percent favorable. That's higher than The One's favorable rating we hear so much about. On the other hand, we hear very little about Oblahma's "unfavorable" rating which is said to be the highest of any president in his first month. Amazingly, Ol' BC hasn't heard this on NBC's Nightly News. Last figure I heard was twenty-four (24) percent unfavorable. Apparently, CNN didn't find many in that quarter of the population.

The time is now to make noise. Make logical noise. Make truthful noise. Point out the failures of Oblahma. The GOP totally blew it trying to be Democrat-lites. They contributed significantly to the place we sit at this particular time. The GOP and conservatives in particular need to watch how the Donks govern. Watch how the Donks campaign. The conservatives have been left in the dust. Reaching across the aisle has merit WHEN you are educating and converting votes to your side not compromising the future of the country by caving in to failed liberal policies of the past.

Watch how the Democrats do it. It's their game. It a bad game. They are running it. Reach across the aisle? What aisle? As Pelosi said, "we won."

Spirit Airlines . . .Has A Sense Of Humor

However it seems some Spirit employees are losing theirs. According to this some flight attendants don't see the humor in some of the airline advertising.

Flight attendants and pilots for Spirit Airlines Inc. want the company to
pull a series of sexually suggestive advertisements, along with a new
requirement they wear a Bud Light patch on service aprons.

However, Ol' BC sees some of the complaint issues as somewhat innovative and a break from the drab old stuff that most airlines fall back on. (Isn't there some ACLU first amendment issue in play here?) Plus, as far a I know, Spirit hasn't filed chapter 7 or 11 yet. That puts their management ahead of most in the industry. Apparently, the airline appeals to someone. Enough someones, in fact, for it to remain a viable entity. Maybe it's not for everyone, but that is why we have choices.

Here's the problem. Political correctness has run amuk. Wearing a pin or a patch should have no impact on one's cognitive function. One should still be able to tell if someone is drunk as easily as before the apron patches. People have lost all sense of reason when political correctness comes into play. It is really not that tough guys. If you don't like it, don't fly it. If you don't like it, don't work there. So far I've seen nothing that would indicate there have been any threats to employees or sex for hire or anything that is really illegal. Just some running a successful airline that has a sense of humor and a Bud Light patch on an apron - OH MY CLAUDE! On top of all that, I find it more than semi-refreshing. Go Spirit!

So early. It seems The One was going so far out of his way to try to reason with the nutcases of Islamic terror. Now al-Qaeda is showing that The One was duped. Like most of us didn't know that. The media projected the image that this would be successful. Now this comes out. The terror boys fired early. They probably could have gotten some concessions from Oblahma. This may not sit too well with The One.

It's amazing to me that so many people want to release these Muslim terrorists after so many have proven what I've said for years - they have no interest in peace at any price. Their only goal is to eradicate the way of life in the west. Kinda reminds one of the Hamas (etal) goal of the eradication of Israel. There will be no peace there either. I just wonder why the U.S. keeps jumping in and blocking Israeli efforts for long term peace just as I wonder why the U.S. would want to put these nuts in Gitmo back in the action of their terrorist mission. Never mind how we treat them like VIP's while they're visiting Gitmo, when we release them they still want to bomb and kill us. Not real likely that Oblahma will pay much attention to the reports as they come in. Time will tell.

Overhyped Inauguration Coming Soon

Historic. Absolutely. The Cardinal (football) franchise is going to its first Super Bowl. We'll probably hear little about it however as The One is about to be inaugurated as our 44th president. This day very well could be the beginning the the unraveling of the United States as we know it. Dubya dealt a pretty good setback with his firehose type spending habits. But, Ol' BC thinks his record will be shortlived. FDR set the standard as we know it for socialism in this country. Remember, however that the Socialist party had gained strength in the U.S. and actually received about a third of the vote in California. It had strong showings in Minnesota and Wisconsin as well. The came LBJ and his great socialist society.

Now, we have The One who promises to move into the next phase. Maybe we can be like the European idols of some with double digit inflation, shrinking economies, double digit unemployment, a general feeling of apathy and national health care. Ol' BC just wonders if the media gaga over The One will subside any time soon. It's time for conservatives to quit being so nice in Washington. Soon it is going to be too late.

Of course, the Donks are protesting. I guess it's to try to appear like they have some level of values where ethics are concerned. Most who follow politics on a semi-regular basis know better.

Global Warming Farce. . .

. . .exposed again. This Deroy Murdoch piece points out the commonly known which is now rarely disputed by anyone not working on government grants or payrolls.

According to the National Climatic Data Center, 2008 will be America’s coldest
year since 1997, thanks to La Niña and precipitation in the central and eastern
states. Solar quietude also may underlie global cooling. This year’s sunspots
and solar radiation approach the minimum in the Sun’s cycle, corresponding with
lower Earth temperatures. This echoes Harvard-Smithsonian astrophysicist Dr.
Sallie Baliunas’ belief
that solar variability, much more than CO2, sways global temperatures.

Murdoch's piece points out several instances where the left leaning global warming nuts are contradicted. The media in the U.S. and Britain for some reason have hitched their wagons to the global warming farce and apparently can't find a way to correct themselves.

So, is this all just propaganda concocted by Chevron-funded, right-wing,
flat-Earthers? Ask Dr. Martin Hertzberg, a physical chemist and retired Navy
meteorologist.“As a scientist and life-long liberal Democrat, I find the
constant regurgitation of the anecdotal, fear mongering clap-trap about
human-caused global warming to be a disservice to science,” Hertzberg wrote in September 26’s
USA Today. “From the El Niño year of 1998 until Jan., 2007, the average
temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere near its surface decreased some 0.25 C
[0.45 F]. From Jan., 2007 until the spring of 2008, it dropped a whopping 0.75 C
[1.35 F].”

There is another possibility. The left seems to want to promote anything that will harm the United States and its economy. By doing so openings for more government intrusion abound. Indenpendent scientists are starting to speak up a little more freely now. They realize that man's efforts and his carbon dioxide footprint pretty much equate to "the old woman pissing in the ocean" when it comes to environmental impact. Going "green" seems like a nice hobby and probably makes some feel good, but the impact is really negligible when compared to that of nature. God created an amazing world.

News Flash. I had a very nice discussion with my Congressman (Mike Pence) today. He is one of the good guys in D.C. I am so happy that he is in a GOP leadership position. Maybe he can have some influence in the party. The subject of the president elect and his chief of staff came up. The Congressman indicated that he didn't know the president elect real well but that he did have a pretty good relationship with Rahm Emanuel. To paraphrase - don't look for anything really unethical or illegal to come from the contacts with the Illinois governor regarding Obama's senate seat, at least from Emanuel. The Congressman pretty much said that Emanuel is a tough politician with whom he disagrees with fairly often. However, he would be really surprised if Emanuel did anything unethical or illegal. It's not his style. I found this quite interesting as I had my doubts about Rahm.

Again, Merry Christmas to all.

One would seriously expect outrage from the main stream media over this appointment. Larry, you remember, was the Harvard president who said that the reason women don't reach top scientific jobs may be biological. It created quite a stir on the wildly liberal Harvard campus among professors.

Ol' BC posted on it back in February of 2005. One wonders if W had appointed this guy what the response would have been.

Post Election Scare

After observing the post election elation from most media outlets and the relative lack of concern of most people in the U.S., Ol' BC's world tilted suddenly. I actually found myself agreeing with FROMA HARROP.

I don't actually recalling this ever happening in the past, although I must admit I don't read her on a regular basis but do more than just occasionally. She is a genuine nutcase - nearly always on the socialist side of any issue. Big government all the way. Nothing leads one to believe that she would have any appreciation for moderation. Now I find myself in agreement with her.

I guess the possibility exists that she has seen the light.

Whatever a new President Obama and his supercharged Democratic majorities owe
labor can be paid in other ways. The ridiculously named Employee Free Choice Act
really is disturbing and undemocratic — and can be easily caricatured as such by
the Republican opposition. It is also bad PR for unions. If they have so much to
offer, why are they afraid of a secret ballot?

While Harrop may be on the money on this issue, it's way too early to assume she's is drifting towards the center politically. It does however make you pause and take a good look when you find yourself in agreement with her.

There has been some discussion as to whether the President-Elect will govern from the center or cave to the pressure from the left. It doesn't look much like the center has much of a chance. This is what happened to Clinton in his first two years. The Donks lost Congress. Clinton moved to the center and now is regarded by many as a good president.

Not only that. Remember back to Jimma Carter, the worst president in our history. Will B. Hussein repeat Jimma's errors. First big decision looks like it could happen. Rahm Emanuel is not a consensus builder.

Tito was on Hannity and Colmes this evening. He pointed out that the liberals want to give the poor a little handout to keep them happy and keep them voting. He then aptly pointed out that the Democrats want to keep them on the bottom of the economic ladder and give them no opportunity to move up into the class that have managed to amass a level of personal wealth.

Way to go Tito!! Preach to the latino community. They need to hear your message.

Universal Health Care - Fails In Hawaii

This Hot Air post tells about it. It goes to show you that you really can't fathom the effects this sort of thing will have on an economy.

“People who were already able to afford health care began to stop paying for it
so they could get it for free,” said Dr. Kenny Fink, the administrator for
Med-QUEST at the Department of Human Services. “I don’t believe that was the
intent of the program.”

It took seven (7) months for Hawaii to throw in the towel. Keep in mind that this was a program for "the children." Some seem perplexed at the result.

Fink gets this entirely wrong. Taxpayers didn’t get this for free.
They paid for it with their taxes. Keiki Care took taxes and directed it
into creating a universal health-insurance program for children, and apparently
didn’t set any income requirements for entry. Why wouldn’t the taxpayers
whose money funded the risk pool take advantage of it?

It's common sense to Ol' BC. Wait until it becomes a national program. Talk about a economic melee. I don't think people can really comprehend the magnitude of the catastrophe. This was just supposed to gets the kids conditioned to socialized medicine. That was the intent of the Washington bill earlier. Get the next generation conditioned to look to the government.

This article from Florida points out just one example. It's big when you look at how close that state has been recently in presidential elections.

More than 30,000 Florida felons who by law should have been stripped of their
right to vote remain registered to cast ballots in this presidential
battleground state, a Sun Sentinel investigation has found.Many are faithful
voters, with at least 4,900 turning out in past elections.

Wow. Sort of makes hanging chads not so important. Will anything be done about it, even though it's the law? Don't hold your breath.

"It's scandalous, really," said Lance deHaven-Smith, professor of public policy
at Florida
State University. "Why do they have to cull the rolls after they get
registered? They shouldn't get on the rolls in the first place."

It might be interesting to see where all these "errors" occur. Ol' BC thinks that's not too likely. Democats seem to outnumber Republicans two to one according to the article.

Body count: In the last six months 292 killed (murdered) in Chicago; 221 killed
in Iraq.

Also, it references Chicago politics, taxes, government debt, education and more. It provides us a brief view of the background from which Barack Hussein Obama comes to us. Scary stuff at best.
